A number on a meter is hard to use on its own. It needs a place, a distance and a note of what was running at the time. I record readings around the bed, the cot, the desk and the lounge, then map where they rise, where they fall, and what nearby looks like the likely source.
What you get is a clear screening record. Not a health conclusion, and not an electrical inspection.

Why map the readings
The useful question is not only "what is the number". It is where the reading was taken, how far it was from the possible source, which setting the meter was on and what was switched on at the time.
So I tie each reading to a set point in the room: the pillow position, the cot, the desk chair, the lounge seat, the router, the meter box wall, the inverter, the appliance next door. That turns a passing reading into something you can look at, compare and use when you decide what to do next.
What gets recorded
Three different field types, kept separate. They are never rolled into one score.
Magnetic fields
These go with current flowing through wiring and equipment. I record them in milligauss around wiring routes, switchboards, motors and appliances, especially where a reading changes with load.
Electric fields
These go with voltage. I record them in volts per metre around walls, power leads, chargers and anything powered near where someone sleeps or works.
Wireless signals
Wi-Fi, phones, smart meters and anything that transmits. I record power density, and I use peak hold where a device sends in short bursts.

The scope follows the question you are trying to answer. It is not a hunt through every device in the house.
How it works
- Define the question. On the call you tell me the room, the positions you want recorded, the equipment nearby and the decision you are weighing up. I set the scope from that.
- Record the room as found. Each point gets a reading, the meter setting, the distance, what was running and the conditions at the time.
- Trace where the reading changes. Where it helps, I step away from a possible source at set intervals, or compare a device running and not running. A change that repeats supports a likely source. It does not by itself establish the cause.
- Map and explain. You get the readings tied to their locations, a plain summary of the pattern, practical options where they exist, and a referral where one is warranted.
What you receive
A mapped screening record, not a number on its own:
- A point register: location, reading, unit, meter setting, distance and what was operating
- Magnetic, electric and wireless results kept separate
- Comparison points showing where the readings rise and fall
- Photos of the locations and the meter display
- Likely-source observations, with what is uncertain stated plainly
- Practical options where they are reasonable, like moving a bed, cot, router or charger, or changing when something runs
- A referral to a licensed electrician or the right specialist where the pattern calls for it
The same points can be checked again after a change, so the new readings sit beside the originals.
Where this fits
EMF screening is scoped through a Home Performance Baseline or a Targeted Environmental Room Scan, depending on whether the question is the whole home or one room. That keeps the readings connected to the room, the building and the decision, rather than treating one number as an answer.

Who it can suit
- You are setting up or moving a bed, a cot, a desk or a home office.

- You want a before and after comparison once something has been moved or changed.
- You would rather have readings from your own home than general advice about other homes.
What this screening does not do
It does not give a health or medical conclusion, assess an electrical installation against a standard, or find faults in wiring.
It does not capture every electromagnetic source, and it cannot promise a source will be identified. The readings are a record of the chosen points under the conditions on the day. They change as devices cycle, equipment moves, people come and go and outside transmissions vary.
Where the pattern points to wiring, a switchboard or something a specialist should look at, the report says so and names the next step. I do not do electrical work.
Questions people ask
Can you tell me whether a reading is a health risk?
No. I do not use this screening to make a health or medical call. The report records the reading, the location, what was running and any practical next step.
Can you find the exact source?
Sometimes the likely source can be narrowed by stepping away from it and by comparing a device on and off. Outside signals, intermittent ones and overlapping ones can stay uncertain, and the report says so when they do.
Does the meter pick up every type of EMF?
No. The TriField TF2 records AC magnetic and electric fields between 40 Hz and 100 kHz, and wireless power density between 20 MHz and 6 GHz. Anything outside that sits outside this service.
Do I need to switch things off?
I record the room first under the conditions you and I agree on. Where it is practical and useful, I then compare selected equipment running and not running.
What if it looks like the wiring or the switchboard?
I record the location and recommend a licensed electrician or the right specialist. This is not electrical fault finding.
Can the same points be checked again later?
Yes. A same-point retest can be scoped so the new readings are compared with the original locations and method.
