About Joe Builds

I’m Joe, founder and director of Joe Builds Pty Ltd.

My journey in the building industry began on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where I spent eight formative years working alongside a local builder. His father was also a builder, so I was fortunate to learn from two generations — gaining an appreciation for both traditional craftsmanship and modern construction methods. That experience instilled in me a deep respect for quality, attention to detail, and the pride that comes from doing things properly.

It was during those early years that I discovered my passion for timber, tools, and working in the great outdoors — a passion that’s kept me in the trade for over 18 years.

Over the course of my career, I’ve worked across a wide range of residential and commercial projects. From custom homes to large-scale renovations, this broad experience has shaped the way I work: hands-on, solutions-focused, and always striving for excellence. I’ve never been one to follow the crowd — I prefer to create, experiment, and think independently. Running my own business has allowed me the freedom to do just that.

Outside of building, I’ve always been drawn to adventure and nature. From mountaineering and rock climbing in my earlier years, to surfing mountain biking/cycling up in Coffs. I believe the natural world is something to be protected and celebrated. My approach to building reflects that philosophy: thoughtful design, sustainable practices, and a commitment to creating spaces that really feel good to be in.

We’re in the process of redesigning our home, along with a new Granny Flat—an opportunity to channel everything I’ve learned over the years into something deeply personal and innovative. The goal is to create a space that reflects not just my style, but my values as a human. Leveraging all the latest in tech to build something new that can be replicated for others to benefit from for years to come.

At the heart of the design is a simple philosophy: bring nature in and be calm.
