Where Do I Start?
Every project begins with a decision gate.
There are two gates:
Feasibility review — Should this proceed?
(Completed on Desktop)
2. Site constraints review — Can this physically be built here without hidden risk?
(Completed at Project Address)
Most problems in construction occur when these gates are skipped.
Use the guide below to determine your starting point.
If Your Project Is Small or Clearly Defined
Examples:
• Deck replacement
• Pergola or small outdoor works
• Bathroom renovation
• Minor structural modification
You should start with Fixed Building Consulting Session
For small or clearly defined projects requiring scope clarification before pricing.
Includes:
• Scope clarification
• Structural triggers
• Approval triggers
• Budget range alignment
• Written summary
• Clear pathway to construction pricing
Outcome:
Defined scope prior to formal pricing.
Start with the Strategic Feasibility Review (Level 1 — Essential)
This confirms:
Planning permissibility
Approval pathway
Budget alignment
Project viability
If greater clarity is required, Level 2 or Level 3 depth can be applied.
Design or “quotes”, do not begin before feasibility is confirmed.
If You Are Planning a New Build, Extension or Secondary Dwelling
When do we combine Feasibility review with Site Constraints review?
Site Constraints review should follow Feasibility review when:
• Zoning is unclear
• Approval pathway is uncertain
• Budget is unknown
• Overlay constraints exist
• Scope may not be permissible
If Zoning and Approval Pathway Are Already Confirmed
Proceed to Site Constraints Review (Level 1 — Essential)
This applies when:
• Approval pathway is already understood
• Zoning permissibility is confirmed
• Budget alignment has been established
This review confirms:
• Slope and earthworks implications
• Access feasibility
• Stormwater discharge
• Services exposure
If performance alignment is a priority, Level 2 — Advanced may be selected.
Documentation should not proceed on complex sites without this gate.
If You Are Upgrading an Existing Home for Comfort or Performance
Start with:
High-Performance Upgrade Audit
(Level 1 — Essential)
This identifies:
Thermal weaknesses
Moisture risk
Ventilation performance
Upgrade sequencing logic
Level 2 or Level 3 depth is available for staged renovation strategy.
